Bass Trap

Definition

An acoustic treatment device designed to absorb low-frequency energy that accumulates in room corners and along wall-ceiling junctions. Bass traps reduce standing waves, room modes, and uneven bass response that compromise mixing accuracy.

In Simple Terms

Thick panels placed in the corners of your room to absorb bass buildup. Without them, some bass notes boom unnaturally while others disappear — and your mixes will have bass problems you can't hear until you play them somewhere else.

In Practice

A pair of floor-to-ceiling bass traps in the front corners of a mixing room reduces a 12 dB resonance at 80 Hz to less than 3 dB, dramatically improving the accuracy of low-frequency mixing decisions.
