Dynamics

Compressor

Definition

A dynamics processor that reduces the gain of audio signals that exceed a set threshold by a defined ratio. Used to control dynamic range, add density, and shape the character of a sound.

In Simple Terms

A tool that makes loud parts quieter and quiet parts louder, evening out the volume. Used on almost everything in modern music — vocals, drums, bass, even the whole mix. The settings determine whether it's subtle glue or aggressive punch.
